6/20/10--Chabad Benefit 2010

Chabad Benefit 2010 featuring Fine Foods and Fine Drinks and a Real Fine Charity.

By Dora Lieberman

The "Chabad Benefit 2010" event is the annual benefit for the Los Alamitos Hebrew High and Chabad of Los Al/Cypress. The vent will feature world class Israeli violinist Lior Kamanetsky and DreamWorks artist Marc Lumer. The benefit is a time for locals to show their support. Among those  honored in the past is Mr. Gary L. Howard of Los Alamitos who got the "Mentsch of the Year Award."

In 2003, the Los Al Hebrew High opened its doors to eight students. Today, the Los Al Hebrew High has eight teachers on staff serving more than one-hundred students at three locations in OC. "The growth rate has been very quick and we have outgrown our current space and we are looking at a new location." Says Rabbi Shmuel Marcus, executive director of Chabad of Cypress. "This is the time for us to expand our support base and celebrate the good work of Chabad in our community."

The idea for the Hebrew High program came from the school's director, Mrs. Bluma Marcus, who thought that it would be nice for students to earn high school foreign language credits through a unique and stimulating Hebrew program.

The program provides an excellent opportunity for our teenage students to satisfy their foreign language needs while receiving a meaningful Jewish education, says Marcus.

Orange County attracts many Jewish families with teenage children making it the ideal location for an accredited supplemental Jewish High School.         This is the type of service I wish I had when I was in High school, says Mr. Ira Penner, a co-sponsor of the school, in a non-school setting, the students actually enjoy the learning.
