The 8th Day Band

8th Day, Jewish music's hottest new rock band, (Rabbi Shmuely and Bentzy Marcus) have two studio albums that get air play on New York Radio and Israeli Radio.

8th Day has played hundreds of shows across the country including Universal Studios CityWalk, CBS Studios, American Airlines Arena in Miami, and KTLA Morning Show, and the Nationally televised Chabad Telethon.

8th Day is currently touring with three-time Grammy nominee and Emmy Award-winning bassist Philip Bynoe. Bynoe is best known for his work with virtuoso guitarist Steve Vai, Philip has played with the likes of Kevin Eubanks and “The Tonight Show Band,” Dorian Holley (of Michael Jackson), Slash (of “Velvet Revolver”), Charlie Farren, and “Ring of Fire” with Tony MacAlpine.

The Marcus brothers Shmuel and Beny capture a fresh and totally unique sound, the likes of which the Jewish music scene has yet to encounter. 8th Day's irresistible harmonies have a distinctive flavor, a modern appeal with plenty of wild color.

What about the name? Well, like most of their lyrics, it comes from Jewish mysticism. According to the band's website, the number seven symbolizes worldly order, while the number eight signifies the supernatural.

It is immediately obvious that 8th Day is anything but the norm. Their free-styled lyrics are part poetry and part teachings. And although their songs are primarily in English the brothers include a kaleidoscopic range of languages, incorporating a healthy dose of Hebrew, some scattered Yiddish and even a dash of Russian. The bands lyrics are unprecedented as whether you grasp the depth of 8th Day's poetic words or not, you will be undoubtedly hooked.

As an unapologetic religious voice in the music world, the brothers are open with their beliefs and insist on doing it their way, which includes an over the top blues song about wearing a kippah. They are neither preachers nor men with a particular religious agenda, 8th Day is just an incredibly talented group of guys sharing their artistic gifts while proudly expressing their Jewish heritage.
